Airtel Voice-Only Plans Launched: Is the ₹185 Plan Worth It?

Airtel has launched three new voice-only recharge plans priced at ₹185, ₹203 and ₹206. These plans offer unlimited voice calls and 300 SMS without any bundled mobile data. They are designed for users who mainly use their phones for calls and messages and don't need regular data.

The launch comes ahead of the October 21, 2026, deadline set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for telecom operators to offer voice-and-SMS-only recharge options. But how useful are Airtel's new plans, especially when its ₹199 recharge already offers unlimited calling and 2GB of data? Let's compare the plans and their benefits.

What Are Airtel New Voice-Only Recharge Plans?

Airtel New voice only plans

Airtel's new voice-only plans provide unlimited calling and 300 SMS for different validity periods without bundled data. The three plans cost ₹185, ₹203 and ₹206, and are listed on Airtel's website and app.

All three plans include unlimited local, STD and roaming calls. They also include free Hello Tunes, according to launch reports. The main difference is the validity period, not the calling or SMS benefits.

You can find these plans in the prepaid recharge section of the Airtel Thanks app or on Airtel's official website. Check the benefits shown for your number before making a recharge.

Why Has Airtel Launched Voice-Only Plans?

Airtel has introduced new voice plans after the Telecom Consumers Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026 which make it mandatory for all telecom operators to provide voice-only plans for customers. It is to be noted that Airtel launched the plans a few days ahead of the TRAI’s deadline of 21st October. You can read TRAI official release here.

These plans are launched after massive demand by customers who rarely or never use internet especially the feature phone holders. They only need phone and recharges to communicate with their loved ones. Also, these voice-only plans are considered a relief for secondary SIM holders who just want to keep their SIM active.

Airtel ₹185 vs ₹199 Plan: Which Offers Better Benefits?

The Airtel ₹185 plan costs ₹14 less than the ₹199 plan but the ₹199 plan also includes 2GB of data. Both plans offer unlimited calling and 28 days of validity, making this the most important comparison for customers deciding between them.

The ₹185 plan is meant for users who want calling and SMS without bundled data. The ₹199 plan, however, provides 2GB of data for just ₹14 more, along with 100 SMS per day instead of 300 SMS for the entire validity period.

This means the ₹199 plan gives users more flexibility if they occasionally need mobile internet for online payments, checking messages, maps or other basic tasks outside Wi-Fi coverage. Both plans have the same 28-day validity, so the ₹185 plan does not offer extra days to make up for the missing data.

Is Airtel's ₹185 Voice-Only Plan Worth It?

Whether Airtel's ₹185 plan is worth it depends on how you use your phone. This new plan is very close to ₹199 plan that already exists. For a difference of only ₹14, the ₹199 plan offers the same validity and unlimited calling, plus 2GB of data.

If you never use mobile data and want a plan strictly for calls and SMS, the ₹185 plan may still suit your needs. However, users who occasionally need internet access may find the ₹199 plan more practical because it includes a small data allowance without increasing the cost by much.

In my own experience, ₹185 is not as good as expected. If you have a feature phone with no internet, then you may consider this plan, otherwise spending ₹14 more will give you 2GB internet data that can you useful for emergency and occasional internet requirements.

For smartphone users who are looking to keep their secondary SIM active, this new plan is very disappointing. Instead, ₹199 plan is far better for them; even though they not need internet, you will also get 300 SMS/day. I was expecting much better plans under ₹150 and is not happy with this. Obviously, Airtel is just following the TRAI’s mandate instead of what users want and unfortunately this is about every telecom operator.

Airtel ₹203 and ₹206 Plans

Airtel ₹203 plan offers 30 days of validity, while the ₹206 plan offers one calendar month. Both include unlimited voice calls and 300 SMS, with no bundled mobile data.

A 30-day plan lasts for 30 days from its activation, whereas a calendar-month plan follows a monthly cycle. Depending on the month and activation date, a calendar month can be shorter or longer than 30 days. If you are choosing between these plans, check the validity displayed by Airtel before recharging.

How to Recharge Airtel's New Voice-Only Plans

You can check and recharge these plans through the Airtel Thanks app or Airtel's official website.

  • Open the Airtel Thanks app or visit Airtel's prepaid recharge website.
  • Enter your Airtel mobile number if required.
  • Open the available recharge plans.
  • Look for the ₹185, ₹203 or ₹206 voice-only plan.
  • Check its validity and benefits before proceeding with payment.

Before You Go …

Airtel's new voice-only plans give customers more options for recharging without bundled mobile data. The ₹185 plan offers 28 days of validity, while the ₹203 and ₹206 plans provide 30 days and one calendar month, respectively.

However, I personally don’t like this plan. Jio will probably follows the same path and obviously they are not in the favor of users. I recommend to compare the ₹185 plan with ₹199 plan before making a decision. Both have the same validity and unlimited calling, but the ₹199 plan includes 2GB of data for just ₹14 more. The better choice depends on whether you value the lower upfront price or the extra flexibility that comes with mobile data.
